Heading to Bushwick, Brooklyn in the near future? If not, you should plan to. Friends Henry and Katja have just added a piece of their passion to the Brooklyn landscape. Tomorrow, Tuesday April 30th, the doors of Falansai, Vietnamese restaurant, will be opening to the public.
I had the honor to be invited to the soft opening of their restaurant and let me tell you, it was such a pleasure. The space is warm, open and inviting. The family style table allows for “breaking bread” with a stranger who, hopefully by the end of the evening, will have become a mutually delighted dinner guest. The decor is minimal but what is used is mostly reclaimed and the installation of charming lighting and traditional bird cages infuses the restaurant with warmth and positive qi or energy.
The food is traditional with a twist. If you read Falansai’s website, you’ll understand what I mean. The dishes we had were fabulous and delicious – a mix of old and new – perfectly reflective of the design of the space.

You can feel that the staff were happy to work there. And you know what that means, when the staff, especially the chef is happy and smiling, his happy qi is passed into your food. That’s a great thing!
Furthermore, the invitation was open to children and it lifted the qi of the space even more and made the event light and…delicious.
