Winter Solstice.

It’s cold and gray. Everyone seems kinda grumpy all the time. And it’s as contagious as last year’s flu. Oy.

On December 21st, we will have only 9 hours and 32 minutes of daylight.

For some reason, I don’t feel very Feng Shui-ey right now.

But this happens like clockwork every single December. So this year I’ve decided to tame the winter blues with a handful of Feng Shui.

Winter Solstice being the first day of winter, it’s not only the shortest day but also the longest night of the year. While that’s excellent news for you night owls, some of us can be left feeling like a droopy flower that hasn’t seen enough sunlight.

I’ve put my mind to bunking the funk this Winter Solstice.

Here are three simple ways to make the most of the Winter Solstice.

 1. Do less. It’s a crazy time of year, but even more of a reason to take it easy. Go a little slower. Spend more time with yourself. We are in the prime time for introspection (winter) and unless you put the brakes on, you’ll miss your most powerful moments for change. Be proactive – cover your TV with a fave scarf to make more space in your schedule (less temptation!) but to also neutralize the over-active energy that electronics can emit.

2. Choose your time wisely. Make no mistake, this is an important time for giving. But not material things. This time of year, it is incredibly important to focus on the people who matter most, like your Helpful People / Benefactors. Giving your time, talents or just a hug is a great way to allow your generosity to flow freely.

3. Celebrate the greatness around you. Ask anyone that is tuned into their inner being what the best way is to generate good energy and they’ll remind you to be grateful. There’s no way around it. To be surrounded by great things, you’ve got to be thankful for the great things that surround you. Try it. You just might be pleasantly surprised.

Start your practice now. Keep these tips in your back pocket at all times. And always with intention. Throw some boogying music on, and start dancing your way towards the Winter Solstice. You may surprise yourself and miss that funk altogether.
