Gone are the days of the paper “We are happy to serve you” greek coffee cups of NYC. You can definitely still find them in scattered bodegas around town, but they are definitely and sadly, going extinct. I love my occasional cup of Joe and luckily I’m finding that it’s easier and lovelier getting my caffeine fix.
Enter, Cafe Colombe. I’ve been spotting these boutique coffee shops popping up around town in the past couple of years but it was the last location that opened up on 400 Lafayette Street that caught my eye. Sitting on a regal corner in what is my opinion coffee wasteland (that non-descript area between the East and West Village), La Colombe Torrefaction Cafe is exactly what the neighborhood needed.

I love it. When I walk in, I am immediately relaxed. Well, that is before I get my jolt of caffeine! Large doors allow abundant energy (and customers) to easily enter into the space. The coffee shop is open and airy and on a clear day, sunlight streams through the large windows. All the glass windows are perfectly balanced by the warm wood stools and tables, accented with metal hardware.
And did I mention the coffee? Mmm, mmm, good. The new La Colombe Torrefaction cafe is quickly becoming my favorite cup of Joe in NYC.
