We are in the thick of summer and although it’s hot (hella hot in some places), the general vibe is to relax and enjoy some of the summer chillness, right?
But I am hearing a lot from clients and friends that although you may be on vacation and taking things a bit slower, there still seems to be an underlying feeling that something is just…off. And this can apply anytime, not just when it’s summertime.
Maybe it’s on the weekends, or when you’re supposed to be relaxing when getting a massage, facial or manicure. That’s you time you should be happy and zen, or so you’re told. Well, if it were only that easy.
Maybe you’ve spent so many years taking care of everyone else that somewhere along the way, you realize (or not!) that you may have lost touch with yourself. Whether it’s your family, career, children, partner or simply the never-ending demands of life, you’ve spent so much time making sure everyone else was okay that you no longer know what makes you happy. You’ve stopped asking yourself what you need, what you love and what makes you feel alive.
If any of this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. I totally hear you. The women I work with, speak to and meet all tell me the same story, just with different details. The minute I hear it, my ears perk up because that’s exactly where my work begins.
People often assume that Feng Shui is just about creating a beautiful home. While I absolutely love helping you create a gorgeous space, that’s only part of what I do. I strive to help you create an environment that is a true reflection of YOU and what makes you feel good because that’s what reconnects you back to yourself. Why hello, you! Long time no see 😊
When you put your intention and energy into that single goal of creating what feels beautiful and good to you, your whole environment begins supporting who you are, and everything begins to shift.
It happened to me the other day while listening to one of my favorite opera arias. I hit play and within seconds I had those familiar goosebumps, then, yup, tears. Not because I was sad, but because something inside me recognized beauty so deeply that my body responded.
I realized a long time ago that beauty is not just physical things. Beauty is a feeling; it’s what makes your heart sing. Beauty isn’t just a lovely bonus in Feng Shui. It’s truly a necessity if you are going to live a kick-ass life.
Maybe for you, that unmistakable feeling of beauty and awe may arise when you’re standing in front of a beautiful painting, listening to live music, smelling fresh coffee or watching the sun set. It’s not the what that’s important. What matters is how it makes you feel.
There is so much beauty around us, but I also know how easy it is to fall into the social media rabbit hole. Trust me, I love them too. I can happily scroll for inspiration and save hundreds of images. The problem comes when you keep collecting inspiration but never asking yourself what you actually love. It’s a pretty superficial world we live in, and the pressure to define it according to someone else’s standards can be overwhelming.
Now imagine this for a minute:
You begin rediscovering what you actually want and need. You stop apologizing for those needs and start honoring them instead. You sleep better. Because you’re sleeping better, you have the energy to get back to the gym. The movement gives you more clarity. With more clarity, you finally tackle the work that really matters to you. You’re showing up differently.
And because you’re showing up differently, your life begins showing up differently for you too. Opportunities begin to appear and you begin saying yes to those opportunities that may have once felt intimidating, but because you’re finally clear about what you want, are a no-brainer.
You meet people who share your values and you’re like, “Wow…we totally click!” You speak more confidently because you know yourself more deeply. Your relationships begin to shift because you’re no longer showing up as the person everyone expects you to be. You’re showing up as yourself.
Now, did those opportunities suddenly appear, or did you become the kind of person who recognized them because you finally knew yourself well enough to say yes?
To me, that’s one of the greatest gifts of Feng Shui. I’m not here to help you create the perfect home. I’m here to help you create an environment that reminds you of what you want, reflects who you truly are and give you that energetic boost to take advantage of every minute of your fabulous life.
That’s my version of Feng Shui. And that’s why beautiful things matter.
