Being sick stinks.
I thought I was doing such a great job staying healthy during the seasonal transition, while riding out the international waves of sickness. But here I am, sniffly and fatigued, yet cozy on the couch, sipping tea – I even made a herbal soup – watch here! — and realizing I missed one crucial thing – practicing my grounding habits.
Usually, when I stick to these 5 easy steps, my Qi is balanced, flowing, and abundant. That means a peaceful mind and a healthy body. But even as a Feng Shui expert, I sometimes forget, urgh!
They say the best way to engrain a habit is by teaching it – so let’s do this together.
My 5 Secrets to Keeping Your Qi Healthy (Even When Life Gets Busy)
Here’s what I do to stay balanced, energized, and in tune with my body. These 5 habits are like the foundation of good Feng Shui for your body, helping your Qi flow and keeping your health on track.
1. Routine is Everything
Sleep, exercise, and daily practices create a steady rhythm for your Qi. When I let my routine slip, I notice how much harder it is to feel grounded. Sleep hygiene is crucial – going to bed at the same time, limiting screen time before bed, and creating a calming evening ritual. Consistent exercise (even if it’s just a daily walk) also helps keep energy flowing freely.
2. Keep Moving
This isn’t just about fitness; it’s about energy flow. I’ve noticed that when I move, whether it’s through yoga, a stroll in the park, or dancing around my living room, my body feels lighter and more aligned. Stagnant energy can block Qi, but gentle, regular movement helps clear that out.
3. Fuel Your Body Right
Let’s talk food. Eating anti-inflammatory foods, like leafy greens, berries, and healthy fats are great team players for your immune system. I also take supplements like vitamin C, D and Chinese herbs to keep my body strong. Think of it as clearing the clutter in your body’s energetic system – when we eat clean and nutritious foods, our Qi can flow more easily.
4. Look Inward
You know I’ve repeated this a-gazillion times: Your internal environment is just as important as the external. Journaling, meditation, or even just a few minutes of mindfulness can help release stress and clear emotional blockages. I regularly make time for alone moments – whether it’s lighting a candle and meditating or just sitting in stillness. It’s a way to clear the mental clutter and let gratitude and calm energy take over.
5. Self-Care is Non-Negotiable
I know this word is overused, but it’s really, really important. Self-care means creating space for yourself and hopefully bring a smile to your face doing something you love. For me, it’s learning how to watercolor or ack – sing. Regardless of the activity, it’s about filling your cup so you have the energy to give to others. When I feel off balance, I take time to do something for myself and that helps reset my energy.
The next time you feel like life’s knocking you off balance, remember these 5 simple steps to keep your Qi flowing and your body feeling its best. I’m going to write a reminder on a sticky note because, even I forget. What’s one habit you want to focus on this week?
