When was the last time you found yourself saying, “I’m so overwhelmed,” or “I don’t have time for that, I have so many things to do, I feel like I’m drowning”? If you’re nodding your head (or crying a little inside), you’re not alone.
From the constant pinging of cell phones to the never-ending news cycle, post-pandemic social events, and beautiful weather enticing us outdoors, there’s always something demanding our attention. We’re all feeling the pressure of our society’s tendency to overload us with too much stuff.
So, what’s eating up all your precious time?
As to not overwhelm you ;), let’s break it down to 2 Simple Answers – Too much Stuff and Too many Commitments. That’s it.
Luckily, I have some gentle advice to help you navigate this. You can even be a weekend warrior and feel better as soon as Saturday night:
To Much Stuff – Here’s a game-changing rule: don’t bring anything in unless you take something out. Seriously, think about it. I visit people’s homes all the time, and they’re like, “Help, I’m drowning in clutter! I have no time, I can’t focus, and I’m unhappy!” Simplifying your environment is like a breath of fresh air for your soul. Trust me, Marie Kondo would be proud.
Personally, I have been Feng Shui-ing my own home and it’s taking longer than usual since I’m being very deliberate about what I want to bring in. It’s a challenge for my speedy metal element but it’s a good exercise slow down to balance my energy. Feng Shui experts need to follow their own advice too 😉
Too Many Commitments – Here’s your secret weapon: a calendar. BEFORE you even put one thing on your calendar, first decide on how much time do you need for yourself, preferably alone, to recharge. This is of utmost importance to recharge your qi. Then, make a visual schedule of your week. Whether you’re a tech wizard like me haha, create it with Google Calendar (color-coded, of course) or an old-school diary lover, keep your schedule handy. And remember, don’t say yes to new commitments unless you’ve blocked off time for yourself. Just like physical stuff, don’t say yes until you know you’ve got the room in your schedule. It’s like finding a spot for that new pair of shoes before you buy them. If not, instant energy drain!
These are champion-level decision-making habits that will help you tame the overwhelm and reclaim your lost energy. Imagine feeling less like a drained battery and more like a solar panel on a sunny day. I’ll take solar panel any day!
Physical clutter and excessive activities are just noise drowning out your higher purpose. Until you take action to quiet that noise, your true self will struggle to shine through, leaving you potentially unfulfilled and stuck on life’s treadmill.
So be vigilant. Take one small step toward your higher purpose and happiness today. You deserve it.
