Boy the summer has flown by too fast for my taste.
If you haven’t noticed (but I hope you have), I’ve been a bit quiet on this end.
Mostly because I’ve been travelling – Paris, China, California, Scotland – you name it, I’ve been there this year.
Some trips were impromptu but I should have known as it was forecasted in my China astrology! (small plug: interested in knowing what’s in store for you? Schedule your Chinese astrology reading here. Also if you want some pix of my travels, check out my instagram @fengshuicreative).
Trotting around the globe got me thinking about where we stay when we are away from home – hotels, airbnbs or even your pal’s place.
And of course you know that when you’re staying someplace other than your cozy home that I want you to be able to whip out some handy dandy Feng Shui to bring ah-mazing chi with you.
Travel with Feng Shui with you your pocket in 3 easy steps!
1. Clear the space – There are many ways to clear a space and make it your own, but as this is either a rental or your Uncle Ed’s pad, you want to use the most unobtrusive clearing method. You can do this by using bells. Sound is very healing and a very quick way to clear – changing stagnant, negative chi into positive, clear chi. Ding, ding, done.

2. Use Your Nose – Ah scent. Our sense of smell is a powerful tool. According to Psychology Today: “A number of behavioral studies have demonstrated that smells trigger more vivid emotional memories and are better at inducing that feeling of “being brought back in time” than images.”
Have a fave candle at home? If staying with friends or family (who are ok with candles), bring a travel size version with you to conjure up your lovely home. If you are staying elsewhere, bring that scent in an aromatherapy oil. Um, you don’t want the risk of starting a fire in that posh hotel room, do you?
3. Bring Fido – Or just a pic of him. Scents can be potent but you can’t discount the power of having by your side a personal keepsake you cherish. This may be a special crystal that you carry with you at all times or that photo of Fido. Whatever it is, place it by your nightstand so if you wake up in a homesick jolt, your calming reminder is never far off hand.
If possible keep these things in a pouch in your travel bag so each time you travel, you won’t have to think about it. Bon Voyage!
Your turn!
What do you do when you travel to make you feel at home?
