It’s my birthday…we’re gonna party like it’s my birthday…Ok so I changed the words a bit. And yes, it is that time of year again. Thankfully, I’m not one of those folks who worries too much about getting older. I am actually grateful for experiences that come along with advanced age. Ok wait, did that sound like I’m getting old?
Everyone has asked me what I am doing for my birthday. Honestly, nothing extravagant. But that’s what feels good to me today. What I like to do on my birthday is to take inventory of my life not only because I’m another year older but because my birthday also conveniently falls on the half mark of the year.
January 1st is usually the time when people set goals and make their lists of resolutions. New Year’s resolutions are good motivators. I make them too and my birthday is a good time to check in and see how I’m doing. Is my resolution sitting warm and dusty on a top shelf somewhere? Does that mean that I just lost focus or has it become obsolete? If it’s still a viable goal, what can I do in the next few months to move it along while keeping my sense of joy accomplishing it? This personal reflection that I am doing is part of the Feng Shui bagua called “Gen” or the self reflection/spirituality part of our lives. Today I’m going to burn a candle in that section of the room to help my intentions along.
So that’s what I’m doing today – taking inventory, shifting gears if needed and patting myself on the back for the things I have done. And eventually having a cocktail and coffee. Not particularly in that order. Wishing you an equally productive and reflective day!
